Do Your New Snow Plow Operators Require Winter Maintenance Training ?
Pro-Tech Training Services has been providing Plow Operator Training for over thirty years and we have developed an intensive five day course for new operators. We service: Brockville, Carleton Place, Kingston, Perth, Napanee, Belleville, Trenton, Peterborough, Huntsville, Kitchener, Owen Sound, Windsor or anywhere across Southern Ontario.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of the requirements and responsibilities of winter maintenance operations and the safe operational procedures of the equipment utilized in winter operations. This course is designed for entry level employees. There is a separate course for more experienced operators. This course provides compliance with New Worker Legislation for Orientation and Training. It is a 5 day course – 1 day in class; 4 days hands on training.

In class topics include:

  • Legislative requirements (hours of service, required inspections of winter maintenance equipment; M.O.L. requirements, health & safety issues)
  • Plow & wing -hook-up, maintenance & blade replacement
  • Sander operation, maintenance & cleanup
  • How to maintain proper sander calibration
  • Sander control operation (dickey john, Compu-spread, Grecian)
  • Proper truck loading techniques
  • Truck inspections
  • Loader inspections
  • Winter maintenance test conducted (40) questions 70% pass required
  • Winter maintenance operation procedures (Municipal)

The practical component includes:

  • Instruction and operation of sander controls
  • Instruction on plow assembly, shoe replacement and blade replacement and practical application by participants
  • Instruction on loader inspection and operation (proper loading techniques and practical application by participants
  • Participants operate fully harnessed plow truck on highway with instructor, simulating actual plowing and sanding operations

Company provides facilities, equipment. Participants require personal protective equipment. Candidates will receive a certificate upon successful completion. Management will be provided with appropriate documentation for their records.
